NTL Spare Nitrite (NO₂) Test Kit Reagent

Description

NTL Spare Nitrite (NO₂) Test Kit Reagent

NTL Spare Nitrite (NO₂) is a replacement reagent for testing nitrite levels in aquarium water. Nitrite is produced as beneficial filter bacteria break down toxic ammonia during the nitrogen cycle. Although less toxic than ammonia, nitrite is still highly harmful to fish and should always remain at 0 mg/L (ppm) in a healthy aquarium.

Regular testing helps identify water quality issues early, allowing you to take corrective action before nitrite reaches harmful levels.

Key Features

  • Replacement reagent for nitrite (NO₂) water testing.
  • Helps monitor one of the most important aquarium water parameters.
  • Detects harmful nitrite levels quickly and accurately.
  • Suitable for routine freshwater aquarium testing.
  • Easy-to-use liquid drop test method.

Benefits

  • Helps protect fish from harmful nitrite exposure.
  • Supports a healthy and stable biological filter.
  • Allows early detection of water quality problems.
  • Encourages proactive aquarium maintenance.
  • Ensures continued use of your existing NTL nitrite test kit.

Understanding Nitrite

Nitrite is produced when beneficial bacteria convert toxic ammonia into nitrite as part of the aquarium's nitrogen cycle. A second group of beneficial bacteria then converts nitrite into the much less harmful nitrate.

While this is a normal biological process, any detectable nitrite is considered unsafe and should be addressed immediately.

What to Do if Nitrite Is Detected

  • 0.25–0.5 mg/L (ppm): Add a filter booster such as Filter Starter.
  • 1.0 mg/L (ppm): Perform a 25% water change.
  • Above 1.0 mg/L (ppm): Perform a 50% water change.
  • Check other important water parameters, particularly ammonia and pH.
  • Ensure your biological filter is functioning correctly.

How to Use

  1. Ensure the test tube is clean.
  2. Fill the test tube with 5ml of aquarium water.
  3. Add 5 drops of the Nitrite reagent.
  4. Replace the cap and shake thoroughly.
  5. Wait 2 minutes.
  6. Compare the sample colour with the supplied colour chart.
  7. A colourless sample indicates 0 mg/L (ppm) nitrite. Any hint of pink indicates the presence of nitrite. Ignore any colour that develops after the initial 2-minute reading.
