NTL Spare GH Test Kit Reagent 10ml

Description

NTL Spare GH (General Hardness) Test Kit Reagent

NTL Spare GH is a replacement reagent for testing the General Hardness (GH) of aquarium water. GH measures the total concentration of dissolved minerals, such as calcium and magnesium, which play an important role in the health of aquarium fish and plants. Knowing your aquarium's GH helps ensure you maintain water conditions suited to the species you keep.

Regular GH testing is an essential part of maintaining a stable and healthy freshwater aquarium.

Key Features

  • Replacement reagent for GH (General Hardness) water testing.
  • Measures dissolved mineral levels in aquarium water.
  • Suitable for freshwater aquarium monitoring.
  • Simple drop-count test with an easy colour change.
  • Helps maintain ideal water conditions for different fish species.

Benefits

  • Allows accurate monitoring of aquarium water hardness.
  • Helps create the correct environment for soft or hard water fish.
  • Supports fish health by maintaining stable water chemistry.
  • Easy-to-read results using a colour change method.
  • Ideal for routine aquarium maintenance.

Understanding GH

General Hardness (GH) measures the total amount of dissolved minerals in the water. The more minerals present, the harder the water.

Different fish species require different GH levels:

  • Soft water species: Approximately 3–6 dGH
  • Hard water species: Approximately 10–15 dGH

One degree of GH (1 dGH) is equal to 17.8 ppm (as CaCO₃).

What to Do if GH is Incorrect

  • Test your tap water to determine its natural GH.
  • If GH is too high, consider using reverse osmosis (RO) water to reduce hardness.
  • If GH is too low, calcium carbonate-based rocks, such as ocean rock, can help gradually increase mineral hardness.

How to Use

  1. Ensure the test tube is clean.
  2. Fill the test tube with 5ml of aquarium water.
  3. Add 2 drops of GH A reagent and mix. The sample should turn dark pink.
  4. Add GH B reagent one drop at a time, mixing between each drop.
  5. Count the number of drops required for the sample to change from pink to blue.
  6. The number of drops used equals the GH value in dGH.
  7. If the first drop of GH B turns the sample blue, the GH is below 1 dGH, indicating very soft water.

Specifications

  • Product: NTL Spare GH Reagent
  • Application: Replacement reagent for General Hardness (GH) water testing.
