AquaForest Reef Mineral Salt 800g / 5kg
AquaForest Reef Mineral Salt is a mineral supplement designed to help maintain the correct balance of minerals and ions in reef aquariums. It is an essential component of the Balling Method, particularly when supplementing calcium chloride and sodium bicarbonate.
Often referred to as “salt without salt,” Reef Mineral Salt has a reduced sodium chloride (NaCl) content compared with conventional marine salts while still providing essential components found in natural seawater, including Magnesium, Calcium, Potassium, Bromine, Fluorine, Boron, and Strontium.
When calcium chloride and sodium bicarbonate are used, unwanted sodium chloride is produced as a by-product. Reef Mineral Salt helps compensate for this effect and maintain the ionic balance of the aquarium water.
Long-term mineral and ionic imbalances can contribute to slowed coral growth and pale or poor coral coloration. Reef Mineral Salt helps provide a more balanced approach to long-term supplementation.

How to Prepare
Dissolve 25g of Reef Mineral Salt in 1000ml of RODI water to prepare the dosing solution.
Reef Mineral Salt can be combined in one solution with AquaForest Magnesium.
For proper ionic balance, it is recommended to also use AquaForest Calcium, KH Buffer, and Magnesium, with their individual dosages determined according to aquarium water tests and daily coral consumption.
Dosage
The prepared Reef Mineral Salt solution should be dosed using the same liquid volume as the Calcium and KH Buffer solutions when following the Balling Method.
Preparation
25g Reef Mineral Salt → 1000ml RODI water
Dosage should be adjusted according to your aquarium's supplementation requirements and the quantities of Calcium and KH Buffer being dosed.
What Is “Salt Without Salt”?
Reef Mineral Salt is a marine salt formulation with a reduced level of sodium chloride compared with conventional marine salts.
Natural seawater contains many different salts and minerals, not just sodium chloride. When calcium chloride and sodium bicarbonate are added to a reef aquarium, they react to provide calcium carbonate for coral skeleton formation while producing sodium chloride as a by-product.
Over time, excessive sodium and chloride can alter the balance between the major elements in a closed aquarium system.
Reef Mineral Salt is used as part of the Balling Method to help address these ionic balance changes while providing important marine minerals.
Why Ionic Balance Matters
Corals and other marine organisms require a balanced combination of major and minor elements for healthy development. Simply maintaining overall salinity does not necessarily mean that the individual elements are present in the correct proportions.
Using NaCl-free or reduced-NaCl mineral salt as part of a complete Balling Method can help maintain a more appropriate ionic balance during ongoing Calcium Chloride and Sodium Bicarbonate supplementation.
