AquaForest AF Lava Soil Natural 5L
AquaForest AF Lava Soil Natural 5L is a natural volcanic lava-based substrate designed for freshwater aquariums. Enriched with valuable minerals, it provides a nutrient-rich foundation for aquatic plants while its highly porous structure creates an excellent environment for the development of beneficial microorganisms.
The unique structure of AF Lava Soil promotes strong plant rooting and improves water circulation throughout the substrate. Better circulation helps prevent the formation of anaerobic zones where bacteria capable of producing toxic hydrogen sulfide can develop.
As the substrate gradually releases minerals into the water, it helps support balanced nutrient availability and efficient nutrient uptake by aquatic plants.

Benefits
Supports Healthy Plant Growth
AF Lava Soil provides aquatic plants with a supportive growing environment while gradually releasing minerals that can contribute to healthy plant development.
Excellent Rooting Environment
The unique substrate structure makes it easier for aquatic plants to establish strong and healthy root systems.
Supports Beneficial Microorganisms
Its high porosity provides plenty of surface area for beneficial microorganisms to colonise, helping support biological processes within the aquarium.
Improves Substrate Water Circulation
The porous structure encourages better water movement through the substrate, helping distribute nutrients more evenly and improve their availability to plants.
Helps Prevent Anaerobic Zones
Improved circulation helps reduce the formation of stagnant areas within the substrate where undesirable bacteria capable of producing toxic hydrogen sulfide may develop.
Natural Mineral Release
AF Lava Soil gradually releases minerals into the aquarium water, providing additional support for plant growth during the early stages of aquarium development.
How to Use
For aquarium setup, place approximately 7 cm of AF Lava Soil across the bottom of the aquarium.
-
Add approximately 7 cm of AF Lava Soil to the bottom of the tank.
-
Fill the aquarium with water to approximately 10 cm.
- Plant your aquatic plants.
- Complete the filling of the aquarium with water.
Initial Water Haziness
Although AF Lava Soil is thoroughly rinsed before packaging, slight water haziness may occur immediately after filling the aquarium.
This is a natural occurrence, does not cause side effects and should normally disappear within approximately 12 hours.
Important Information
AF Lava Soil contains a high level of minerals that are gradually released into the aquarium.
To avoid excessive accumulation of micronutrients, AquaForest recommends limiting the dosage of micronutrient fertilisers during the first six months after setting up the aquarium.
Monitor your aquarium and adjust fertilisation according to plant requirements and water parameters.
