AquaForest AF Lava Soil Black 5L
AquaForest AF Lava Soil Black is a natural volcanic lava-based substrate designed for freshwater aquariums. Enriched with valuable minerals, it provides an excellent foundation for aquatic plants while creating a highly porous environment that supports the development of beneficial microorganisms.
Its distinctive black appearance provides a natural-looking base for aquascaping and can create a striking contrast against green, red and brightly coloured aquatic plants.
The porous structure promotes strong plant rooting and improves water circulation throughout the substrate. This helps distribute nutrients more evenly and supports efficient nutrient uptake while reducing the risk of anaerobic zones where bacteria capable of producing toxic hydrogen sulfide may develop.

Benefits
Supports Healthy Plant Growth
AF Lava Soil Black provides a supportive environment for aquatic plants while gradually releasing minerals that can contribute to healthy plant development.
Excellent Rooting Environment
The unique structure of the substrate makes it easier for aquatic plants to establish and develop strong root systems.
Supports Beneficial Microorganisms
Its highly porous structure provides valuable surface area for beneficial microorganisms, supporting biological activity within the aquarium.
Improves Substrate Circulation
The porous lava structure encourages water movement through the substrate, helping distribute nutrients and improve their availability to plant roots.
Helps Reduce Anaerobic Zones
Better circulation throughout the substrate helps reduce stagnant areas where undesirable bacteria capable of producing toxic hydrogen sulfide may develop.
Natural Mineral Release
The substrate gradually releases minerals into the water, helping provide additional nutritional support for aquatic plants during the early stages of aquarium development.
Striking Black Finish
The dark substrate creates a clean, natural-looking aquascaping base and provides excellent visual contrast with green and red aquatic plants.
How to Use
For aquarium setup, place approximately 7 cm of AF Lava Soil Black across the bottom of the aquarium.
-
Add approximately 7 cm of AF Lava Soil Black to the bottom of the tank.
-
Fill the aquarium with water to approximately 10 cm.
- Plant your aquatic plants.
- Complete filling the aquarium with water.
Initial Water Haziness
Although AF Lava Soil Black is thoroughly rinsed, slight water haziness may occur immediately after filling the aquarium.
This is completely natural, does not cause side effects and should normally disappear within approximately 12 hours.
Important Information
AF Lava Soil Black has a high mineral content and gradually releases minerals into the aquarium water.
To help prevent excessive accumulation of micronutrients, limit the dosage of micronutrient fertilisers during the first six months after setting up the aquarium.
Monitor your aquarium's water parameters and adjust fertilisation according to the needs of your plants.
