Aquaforest AF Air Scrubber Media 2L
Maintain a more stable pH and create better conditions for coral growth with Aquaforest AF Air Scrubber Media 2L. Designed for use with protein skimmers, this specialised CO₂-absorbing medium helps reduce the amount of carbon dioxide entering your aquarium from the surrounding air.
In reef aquariums, elevated indoor CO₂ levels can contribute to lower water pH. Everyday activities such as breathing, cooking and having pets can increase CO₂ concentrations indoors, while closed windows and reduced ventilation during colder months can make the issue more noticeable.
By removing CO₂ from the air drawn into the skimmer, AF Air Scrubber Media helps minimise pH fluctuations and supports a more stable reef environment. According to Aquaforest testing, it can raise aquarium pH by approximately 0.2–0.4, helping stabilise it within the 8.0–8.4 range.
Key Features
-
Excellent CO₂ absorption – Effectively removes carbon dioxide from air entering your protein skimmer.
-
Helps raise aquarium pH – Can increase pH by approximately 0.2–0.4 under suitable conditions.
-
Supports coral growth and condition – Stable pH provides a more favourable environment for coral development and calcification.
-
Reduces pH fluctuations – Helps counteract the effects of elevated indoor CO₂ levels.
-
Colour-change indicator – The pellets gradually change colour as they become saturated, making it easy to monitor the medium's condition.
-
Easy to use – Simply place the medium into a suitable air scrubber filter.
-
Safe for reef aquariums – Designed for use in marine aquariums and safe for fish and corals when used as directed.
-
2L quantity – Convenient refill size for your aquarium's CO₂ filtration system.
Benefits for Your Reef Aquarium
Maintaining a stable pH is an important part of successful reef keeping. When CO₂ levels rise, aquarium water can become more acidic, potentially contributing to reduced pH and less favourable conditions for coral calcification.
AF Air Scrubber Media helps tackle this issue at the source by filtering CO₂ from the air before it reaches the skimmer. This can be particularly useful in rooms with limited ventilation or during autumn and winter when windows are more likely to remain closed.
A more stable pH can help provide consistent conditions for fish, corals and other reef inhabitants, while supporting healthy coral development.
How to Use
- Fill the dedicated Aquaforest AF Air Scrubber filter with the AF Air Scrubber Media.
- Connect the air scrubber to your protein skimmer's air intake according to the filter manufacturer's instructions.
- Allow the skimmer to draw air through the CO₂-absorbing medium.
- Monitor the colour of the pellets regularly.
- Replace the medium before it becomes completely saturated.
The medium gradually changes colour as it absorbs CO₂. When the pellets turn purple, this indicates that the medium has absorbed CO₂ and is becoming exhausted.
Important Information
- The cartridge is intended for single use and cannot be regenerated or reused.
- For optimal and long-lasting filtration, Aquaforest recommends using AF Air Scrubber Media together with the dedicated AF Air Scrubber filter.
- Replace the medium before the colour change is complete to help maintain effective CO₂ removal.
- Aquarium pH can vary depending on factors such as room ventilation, aquarium conditions, stocking levels and CO₂ concentration, so results may differ between systems.
- For best results, regularly monitor your aquarium's pH and other water parameters.
